As the subject says, the game crashes when I select certain resolutions. Namely 1440*900. This problem is able to be reproduced by -many- people using the English version of the game. Once you select the resolution, or you start up the game with said resolution the entire screen will go black, but thankfully I can pull up the task manager and hit ALT+E to close down alpha prime. Most other resolutions work fine, there are a few that also show this problem, however.

There was a thread with this same exact issue with the English Demo that was made a few weeks back. This is definatly a game bug, as MANY people can reproduce the issue on different systems.

I should also note that I have tried running in window mode and the same issue occurs. After showing the start-up movie for black element, the game just goes black with the game's mouse cursor stuck in the upper left hand corner. The task manager shows Alpha Prime as not responsive.

So the same thing is happening in both window or full-screen mode. It seems to me that any resolution that is 16:10 causes Alpha Prime to lock up like this.

Definatly something going wrong with some sort of routine within the engine itself. If I run in windowed mode and run with the resolution 1400*900, the game will run just fine. If screenwidth is > 1400 or <1500 the game will hardlock in the way I described.

Hopefully this information will be useful, as I'd like to enjoy this game in fullscreen mode. Smile

Does 1280x800 (WXGA) work?

Yes

I would just play with a different resolution, but 1440*900 is my LCD's native resolution so using anything else results in the picture being scaled thus resulting in a slight blur to everything.

The fix for this bug is probably 1 line of code that needs to be changed, and I'd change it myself; but i'm not the one who owns the source code to the engine. Wink

I'd like some sort of official confirmation on this issue. Can we expect a patch to correct this issue anytime soon, or is anyone with the english version of the game running with 1440*900 screwed?

I really like the game so i've just been playing it in windowed mode. The AI is mediocre, but other then that I really enjoy this game. It's just too bad this bug is hindering people from playing the game in fullscreen mode which allows full immersion, and better performance.

I think you refer to my post regarding 16:10 resolution with demo. With the final release I have to say that at least for 1680x1050 the black screen problem dissapeared but for what you say the problem is still there for other resolutions. I donīt know i f they have really change anything with the final version or if itīs just a matter of putting all the code together what fixed the problem. I think that youīll have to wait for a patch to see if they have taken into account this matter Cool

Why would this issue be corrected in the next patch if they have not taken account of the issue to begin with?

We will look at this problem if we will be able to reproduce it. We successfully tested it on couple of widescreen monitors and even Matrox tested it on TripleHead2Go with 3840x1024 resolution so it seems strange to me what a limitation there should be...

Same problem here! Resolution 1440x900 results in a black screen after black element intro.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 + newest drivers + DirectX august update + ATi Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB

Game version 1.01

Please, can you try to manually edit file settings.cfg and change this line:
Fullscreen 1

to this:
Fullscreen 0

and tell me how it works then? I have only 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 monitors and it works fine.
Only 16:10 is my notebook, with 1280x800 and it works fine too.
When I try 1440x900 in windowed mode, it works too, so I'm not able to reproduce
this problem Sad

I tried some other resolutions in windowed mode:

1400x900 works
1440x800 does not work
1500x900 works
1440x600 does not work
1420x900 does not work

1460x900 works

really, really strange!
